What's Happening This Week?

Language Arts    It's all about using visuals to create images in our minds about what we are reading.  What words help you create a picture in your head?  Good readers are able to make that picture to help them understand what they are reading.  We are also focusing on oil and oy words, as well as ound, out, and ow words.  In writing, we will work on sentence fluency.  We can vary sentence lengths and beginnings to create interest and variety in our writing. 






 Math We are continuing to work on adding and subtracting 2-digit and 3-digit numbers.  Ask your child to show you some of the card and dice games that we've been playing to help us practice these skills. 




Science/S.S.  Very soon, we are starting our Insect unit.  This is a very popular unit of study every year.  We will be raising three different insects (caterpillars, mealworms, and milkweed bugs) and observing their life cycles.  We will also learn about their survival needs and habitats.  The unit will also include a research project in which each student chooses a bug to investigate.  I always learn so much from their research!  This will also

                                                

  Other We have set new reading goals for this month!  Please discuss your child's reading goal with him or her.  I will also be making some additions to the B.E.E. books this week.  There will be some new and fun activities for skills practice.
