Can you believe that there's only 18 days until our new school year starts?  This summer has gone so fast!  I hope all of you have had some fun swimming, riding bikes, playing with friends, and reading a few good books!
On Aug. 12th from 5:00-6:00, you can come and meet me at Wasmer's Open House night.  I look forward to seeing you and your families!
Remember that school starts on Aug. 13th at 7:55.  I am going to post a school supply list soon.  So check back in a couple of days to see what you will be needing for school this year.

Is it really over?

To my "kids":  Thanks for an amazing year together!  Each one of you has a special place in my heart.  We had a lot of fun and learned a lot from each other.  Yes, I even learned a lot from you!  I hope you always have fond memories of your 2nd grade year at Wasmer.  I know that all of you have so much potential and can achieve great things!  So have an amazing and fun summer.  Be safe!  And read a lot of great books!
To my "kids'" parents:  You have amazing, talented, and compassionate children.  It was a true pleasure spending every day with them.  Thank you for all that you did this year to support your child's education.  You are raising some amazing little people!

Painted Lady Butterflies

Today was an exciting day in our classroom!  We have 4 more butterflies, for a total of 7!  Hopefully, we will have 3 more tomorrow.  If the weather is nice on Friday, we'll release them so they can lay eggs and create more butterflies.

Earth Day facts:
Over one billion people from 180 countries around the world celebrate Earth Day every year.

If everyone in the United States recycled their newspapers, the lives of 41,000 trees would be spared. One single tree can detoxify the air of up to 60 pounds of pollutants.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA,) without recycling, a family of four throws away about 2,000 pounds of garbage each year.

If you chopped down a 15-year-old tree and used it to make paper grocery bags, you'd wind up with about 700. That's roughly the number of bags your local supermarket goes through in an hour.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in the United States, about 75 percent of the garbage dumped in the regular trash could be recycled.

It takes nearly 500,000 trees to produce the weekly Sunday newspaper.
If you walked a mile along any highway in the United States, you'd encounter an average of 1,457 pieces of litter.
